Patrick Beverley breaks news of his own trade to Bucks ahead of NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski, Shams Charania

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania are the top two NBA insiders in the game.

But it looks like they have some new news-breaking competition: Patrick Beverley.

The 35-year-old guard announced the news of his own trade Thursday, beating NBA reporters to the punch for one of the most surprising moves of the day. The 76ers sent Beverley to the Bucks in a move that will help to upgrade Milwaukee’s shaky defense.

The trade was big news in and of itself. Both the 76ers and Bucks are contending for an Eastern Conference title, so seeing the two teams trade with one another was a surprise.

Evidently, though Milwaukee’s new coach, Doc Rivers, wanted a backcourt defender with whom he was familiar. Beverley, who played under Rivers with the Clippers, fit the bill, and the 76ers were willing to give him up.

Still, the biggest surprise was that Beverley was able to report the trade ahead of NBA insiders. He fired off a tweet about the deal from his “Pat Bev Pod” account on X (formerly Twitter) at 1:33 p.m. ET.

Comparatively, Wojnarowski’s post about the trade didn’t come until four minutes later at 1:37 p.m. ET. Charania’s tweet about the Beverley trade came one minute after Wojnarowski’s post.

Wojnarowski and Charania are notoriously quick to post news, so the fact that Beverley beat both is impressive. Sure, the deal involved him, but he still probably had to tweet the news almost immediately after being told to ensure that he would beat both to the punch.

We’ll soon see if this becomes the norm for Beverley or if this was just a one-time thing. It’s worth noting that he weighed in on the Wojnarowski vs. Charania battle as trade deadline news came in last season.

Perhaps Beverley relishes a chance to scoop the scoopers. But regardless of his goals or his future in news-breaking, Beverley won the day on Thursday. Now, he’ll look to win a championship with the Bucks.
