There’s nothing quite like the Charlotte Roval in Cup Series racing.
The monotony of the oval can prove mystifying for some. For others, it’s taxing. Not every driver can compete amid the blazing velocities of short tracks or superspeedways. The difference between the haves and the have-nots really come to pass on the egg; stock car heavyweights like Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports’ dominance looms over the rounded surface like a storm cloud.
Road courses, by comparison, offer a glimpse into the unpredictability of the NASCAR world. Michael McDowell, A.J. Allmendinger and Daniel Suarez are among those to have shined amid the curves, none of whom are signed to traditional Cup Series powerhouses.
It’s not for everyone; just ask Bubba Wallace, who has tended to falter on the surface over the course of his career. But it’s a breath of fresh air to the steady drum of oval racing.
As such, the final road course race of 2023, the Bank of America Roval 400, should prove nothing if not unpredictable.
Anything can happen on the road. And isn’t that the reason why we watch?
With that, here’s what you need to know about the starting lineup for Sunday’s race at the Roval.
Who won the pole for the Charlotte Roval in 2023?
Tyler Reddick took the pole for Sunday’s race, blazing past the rest of the field with the fastest lap time in qualifying. He outpaced Christopher Bell, who will join him in the front row. It’s the sixth career pole and second of the season for Reddick.
