MLB hitter props for Wednesday, April 3

Rafael Devers total bases : OVER

Devers has gotten off to a slow start this season, with only four hits in his first four games. Two of those knocks have been for extra bases, however, and Devers has a strong track record as a power hitter. The third baseman is a career .280 hitter, and 43% of his career hits have gone for extra bases. The Athletics have given up 43 runs over their first six games, so playing against Oakland is a good chance for Devers to get right. He will need an extra-base hit or two singles to hit the over, and with the matchup and his power, we like Devers chances today.

Julio Rodriguez .5 home run : OVER

The 23-year-old outfielder is a budding superstar for the Mariners, and while he has gotten off to a slow start this season, he has been putting together good at-bats — and the breakout is coming. He has a hit in five of the Mariners’ six games but has not hit a home run yet this season. Rodriguez hit 32 home runs last season, and facing a lefty today makes for a good matchup for the right-handed hitter. Cleveland starter Logan Allen gave up two home runs in his first start.

Michael Conforto hits : OVER

The Giants’ veteran outfielder is swinging a red-hot bat to start the season with a hit in five of his first six games — and two or more hits in three games. He faces starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow for the Dodgers tonight — another right handed pitcher, which is ideal for him as a left-handed hitter. One hit tonight seems almost too low of a line; expect Conforto to hit the OVER.

MLB pitcher props for Wednesday, April 3

Casey Mize strikeouts : OVER

Mize, a former No. 1 overall pick, is making his first start since having Tommy John surgery and missing all of last season and most of the season before. The last time Mize was at full strength was in 2021, and he was coming into his own, looking capable of living up to his draft status and being a top-of-the-rotation pitcher. Coming out of Auburn, what made Mize so good was his ability to locate pitches and his nasty offspeed stuff. A 3.5 strikeout line has more to do with Mize coming off injury, but looking at his last three spring training starts, Mize had 4-plus strikeouts in each.

George Kirby strikeouts : OVER

The Mariners’ young ace looked excellent in his first start, shutting down a solid Boston lineup, going 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts. Over his first two seasons as a starter in Seattle, Kirby averaged 0.95 strikeouts per inning; last season, he averaged six innings pitched a game. The Guardians lineup struck out 11 times in last night’s games against Seattle. That sets up well for Kirby to have another strong outing with at least six strikeouts.

Christian Javier earned runs allowed : UNDER

The Astros starter had an excellent first start of the season when he went six innings, giving up only four hits, one walk and striking out six against a strong Yankees lineup. In his matchup today against the Blue Jays, he will be facing an ice-cold lineup. Toronto has scored zero and two runs in the first two games of the series against Houston. Expect Javier to build on his first start and have another strong outing.

MLB player props pick of the day for Wednesday, April 3

Shohei Ohtani total bases : OVER

The Dodgers star has a track record like very few as a career .274 hitter with 332 career extra-base hits. He has not hit a home run yet this season and has not been hitting the ball like he is capable. It is only a matter of time before he breaks out, and don’t forget that he boasts great speed. So whether he hits a home run or legs out a single into a double, OVER 1.5 total bases tonight is an intriguing bet.
