Aston Villa vs Arsenal lineups, starting 11s, team news for Premier League match: David Raya set to start for the Gunners

Arsenal take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this weekend in what will be a test of their Premier League title aspirations before the end of 2023.

The Gunners grabbed a late 4-3 midweek win away at Luton Town to extend their title lead to four points, before Villa secured a fine 1-0 victory at home to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Both sides are in superb form ahead of their meeting at Villa Park with the hosts boasting a home record of seven Premier League wins from seven so far this season.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal lineups

Both Mikel Arteta and Emery have a busy schedule in December with Villa still looking to confirm their spot in the Europa Conference League Round of 16.

However, with no Carabao Cup duty for either manager, their primary focus will be on the Premier League and changes are likely to be at a minimum for this clash.

Arteta is the most high profile absentee, as he will be watching from the stands due to a touchline ban, but under fire goalkeeper David Raya is set to keep his starting place for Arsenal.

Here’s the projected starting lineups for this Premier League clash at Villa Park on December 9.

Aston Villa starting 11

Aston Villa projected lineup (4-5-1): Martinez (GK) — Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne — Bailey, Kamara, Tielemans, Luiz, McGinn — Watkins.

  • Injured: Buendia, Mings, Traore.
  • Suspended: None

Despite the exertion of securing a victory over the defending champions, Emery will likely stick to the same starting team, with Youri Tielemans playing a deeper role in the Villa midfield.

Arsenal starting 11

Arsenal projected lineup (4-2-3-1): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Rice, Havertz — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

  • Injured: Timber, Partey, Vieira, Tomiyasu, Smith-Rowe.
  • Suspended: None

Arteta will have full control over team selection and pre-game planning, despite his ban, and Oleksandr Zinckenko could be the sole change in place of Jakub Kiwior at left-back.
